Trying more new stuff, this time in the pool...Week 10...

Monday is an easy workout day; it's only an hour of swimming. However, I don't enjoy swimming, so I mentally have to push myself out the door for each swim workout.

This swim session was the first one I would try my prescription goggles. I've never had them before, and when I swim with my non-prescription goggles, I can't see anything other than blur. These goggles are great. I was concerned they wouldn't be properly fitting, but they felt great, did not let in water, and I could see.

It was a high-intensity session today, with some all-out efforts for some sets. Yet, again, I felt strong; just like last week, it carried over.

There was another guy at the pool, another Ironman, Jay. I still consider myself an Ironman. He was swimming in the lane beside me and helped push me without knowing it, trying to keep up or go ahead of him during the intensity portion of the workout.

About halfway through the workout, we started conversing while resting between sets. He's 50 years old; of course, when you do Ironman, you ask, so you know their age group, and he's done 16 Ironman and going to Kona next month.

We figured out one of the Ironmans in Cozumel, and we both did it the same year, in 2013.

It's amazing how I've met so many people during training over the year at the pool or on the bike. You rarely meet someone running, but biking and swimming are common. It reminded me of old times. You never know where these random meetings will lead. They can go nowhere or lead to rides and runs together. If you've done an Ironman and meet another Ironman, there is a bond, even if you don't know each other.

This morning, I weighed myself. I was nervous. Did I lose weight from last week after a weekend road trip? The good news is that I dropped a little weight and weighed 226.6 lbs. I started at 239.8 lbs, and now I'm down 13.2 lbs. It's more, as I hit a high of 241 lbs a few days earlier than starting, but if we take it from the official start date, I'm down 13.2 lbs.

In the first month, I lost 6.8 lbs in the second month, I lost 6.4 lbs. I'm averaging 6.6 lbs of weight loss per month. I was hoping for more, but it is what it is. When I extrapolate, at this rate, I'll be down to 213 lbs on November 21st, which is also my birthday. Last year, on my birthday, I was 226.2 lbs. Last year, on September 23rd, one year ago exactly, I was 229.8 lbs.

Progress is being made.
