Getting back on that horse...

Today was a critical day. I had a rest day last Friday, Sunday, and yesterday—three rest days in five days. If I took another rest day today, I thought it could be a slippery slope.

I woke up still feeling tired, but not nearly as much as yesterday. My legs felt good enough that I could do an hour of running without having them be garbage miles that would have no benefit.

There was a mini push to get me out the door, and once I got going, any negative thoughts disappeared. The session was to keep the heart rate at 130 bpm or less, but there was a short interval training session of running as fast as you can for 20 seconds, then resting light job for 20 seconds, and repeating 6 times.

I didn't want to do it and didn't think I would, but I decided to do it anyway, and I'm glad I did. I didn't mail it in, and I even scored 96 on my Tri Dot session evaluation, which basically means I'm a "good boy" and did my session as required.

As I ran, I tried to keep motivated and tell myself I was on track. I was concerned about all the eating I did yesterday. Was it a sign that I was going to sabotage my efforts? One of the things I should do is go back to day one of when I started this journey on my blog, read how I felt on those days, relive them, and see if that helps. Will it reinvigorate me?

The run was okay. It was a mixture of running and walking. My heart rate is lower than usual but not yet at the level where I can run the entire time without needing walking breaks. I keep realizing I have a long way to go. However, it was my longest run today. It was nice and sunny, and I didn't sweat as much after I finished the run. I'm stopping my sweating now within 5 - 10 minutes.

The bad news is I officially have a cold sore. A definite sign my body is beat up from training. What sucks is I have to meet a potential customer tomorrow, and there is nothing worse than meeting someone you don't know with a cold sore and being self-conscious about it.

Besides the cold sore, I feel a little more rested today.

Run -  1:00:46 / 8.25 km / 7:22 per km pace.
