I lost my locker key, sorta...

I woke up today tired. I had my 3:30 a.m. pee break and couldn't fall asleep for over an hour. When I eventually did fall asleep, I didn't want to get up. I forced myself out of bed at 7:30 a.m.

Today's session was a swim workout. As always, I'm not a fan of swimming and have to psych myself up to go every time, and today was no different.

I was able to get away near the end of the day to slip in an hour of swimming. The swim was uneventful until I felt I had lost the key to my locker around halfway through. I had visions of me not removing it from the lock and someone opening my locker and taking my wallet.

Right after, I thought I jumped out of the pool and hustled to my locker. The lock was still on, and I looked all over the floor and bench and could not see my key. When I got back to the pool, I tore apart my swim bag and emptied every pocket. No key.

At this point, I had a decision to make: Should I cut the swim short and try to figure out how to get into my locker, or should I finish the swim and figure it out later? I decided to finish the swim. There was no value in stopping other than using it as an excuse to cut the swim short.

As I continued to swim, I considered my options. One option was to get one of the staff to cut my lock off. I'm sure they are used to that. But then I'd have to figure out a way to get their attention, as I don't want to walk to the front desk in my bathing suit, dripping wet.

As I swam, I thought it would be great if I could call them. Then I realized my phone was not in my locker; it was at the side of the pool, so I could call the front desk and let them know. Then, as I swam more, I remembered the lock came with two keys. I wonder if the second key is at home.

So I called Alice and asked her to take a look. She found it—or at least we thought it was it. I had her text me a photo, and the name on the key was the same as the one on the lock. Chances are it's 99% the right key. Then I asked her if she could bring it down to LA Fitness and give it to someone at the front desk to bring it to me in the locker room. But to show up at 4:20 pm when I'm done with my swim.

She was right on time. She gave the key to the front desk person, who gave it to me, and it worked. Yeah, the minute I opened the locker, I checked to make sure my wallet and keys were still there. They were.

Now, I was really perplexed. Where could my key be? For the second time, I took everything out of my bag and double- and triple-checked every pocket. Still, there was no key. At this point, I gave up and just started to get undressed.

As I was taking off my bathing suit, I felt the key. I pinned it on my bathing suit. I was in automatic mode, wasn't thinking, and pinned it on my bathing suit. I had the key the entire time. DOH. I was worried and had Alice come to the club to give me the secondary key when I didn't need it. When I realized I started laughing at myself and thinking I was such an idiot.

My swimming is feeling stronger, and I'm getting the feel of the water. I don't want to say I'm enjoying it, but I'm making progress and happy about that. It's a win. And I'm using my Apple Watch to keep track of the laps and tonight I realized it keeps track of my pacing and I can review it after the swim which is awesome. There were some 100 that I was as low as 1:44 per 100 meters at the start of the swim when I felt stronger. But in all fairness, I didn't really go hard today.

Swim - 1:01:07 / 2126 meter / 2:52 / 100 m.
