Soon that shirt is going to be a dress...

Monday marked the start of the 4th week on the carnivore diet, and I'm down 10.2 lbs. I'm a little surprised and disappointed it's not a little more. I was hoping it would be 12 lbs, as that seemed to be the magic number after 1 month. But I guess being 10.2 lbs down is better than nothing.  There has been a little frustration in that I see plateaus even though I'm not doing anything different. I've stayed strict with the diet plan, nothing but meat, eggs, butter, and a small amount of cheese. The only things I've been drinking are coffee, water, and carbonated water. I'm writing this on a Saturday and Monday will be the completion of week five. This week I struggled due to frustration in seeing the scale go up and down and basically another plateau. Even to the point where I wondered if I should go off it for a week or two, screw up my body, and then restart.  I did have a dream the other night, and the message to me was to stay the course. Fight the urge a...

Week three done, down 9.8 lbs

Image
The first three weeks of the carnivore diet are officially in the books, and I'm down 9.8 lbs on the carnivore diet. I'm pretty surprised and happy, of course. On all the other diets I've gone on and been on a lot, I tend to only lose about 6.6 lbs per month.  Several unexpected things are happening on this diet that goes beyond weight loss and may even be more beneficial.  The first is my joints are looser. Before the diet and for at least a year, maybe more, I felt like an old man. I'd get up, and it would take me some time to straighten up, and then I had to walk small steps and slowly until I got moving. I no longer have this problem.  In only a week or two, I started to notice that I felt like a young man. I no longer needed my "old man" warm-up mode to get going. That was a significant surprise. From YouTube videos I watched, they did say it helped joints and arthritis, and it does. Or, at least for me, it did. The other noticeable difference is my moo...

First week of Carnivore diet in the books...

I started the carnivore diet last Monday. Before that, I spent January just eating less and avoiding snacking and junk food.   In January, I started at 230.4 lbs and ended up at 226.8 lbs, losing a whopping 3.6 lbs. It was a little frustrating after working so hard. Especially when the first 3 days, I did a 72-hour fast, no food, just liquids.  The reality was I lost those 3.6 lbs in the first 3 days, and then for the rest of the month, I stayed in the 226+/- for the balance. I had never seen that before. It was a flat line.  At the end of the month, I figured I needed to do something different, so I decided to go on the carnivore diet, eating nothing but meat. The first week's results have been impressive. I've gone from 226.8 lbs to 223.2 lbs in 7 days. That's a 3.6 lb weight loss in the first week. Winning.  There have been other positives other than the 3.6 lb weight loss. After the first few days, I noticed I didn't want to eat. I wasn't hungry. I'd eat mea...

Nothing like eating hockey pucks...

I'm a little disappointed on day 5 of my carnivore diet. I have not yet experienced any explosive diarrhea. I've been so looking forward to painting the toilet bowl.  Everyone I watched on YouTube talked about the 2 - 3 weeks of not just diarrhea but "explosive" diarrhea. For me, I've had little diarrhea, but not really much. And not nearly as much as when I was a little kid eating all my Halloween candy on the first day.  But perhaps, I just need to be patient.  The diet is working. I'm down around 2 lbs, and I don't feel hungry. In fact, yesterday was the first day I wasn't even thinking I wanted to eat.  Meat doesn't have the same gravitational pull to eat it as carbohydrates.  The key is to have some variety, so off to Costco.  Alice and I went. By the time I was done, my cart was filled up "textbook" carnivore diet plan, or what they also call the Lion diet, as you can see from the photo. I got some hamburger, chicken, brisket for sm...

The BRYAN 2.0 Journey Begins

Image
I used to tell people my goal in life was to live to 57 years old. My grandfather, who I idolized, died at 57 years old. He died of a heart attack caused by a blood clot.  Turns out my family history has a genetic disposition to blood clots. My father almost died twice, and I once at 45 years old. When I was hospitalized for chest pain, they found my lungs full of blood clots. Turns out I have the blood clot gene. Now I'm on daily blood thinners. Death averted.  Holding the ball with Grampa and my brother I mention this because my grandfather died when I was in the second grade, and I remember getting mad at God and telling myself I was now going to become a bad boy. Which I did. Getting into trouble was my middle name. The first time I got drunk was at a Wedding when I was probably 10 or 11 years old.  I forgot to mention, my grandfather was a huge partier. The life of the party I'm told and there's no doubt I followed in his footsteps.  Since then, I have partied h...
