Restart at 241 lbs, the New Journey Begins...

Last year, I got down to 202 lbs; this past year, I gained nearly 40 lbs. A week ago, I stepped on the scale at 241 lbs.

I had to do something. I've had no motivation to lose weight. In fact, I've been ready to just keep eating, drinking, gaining weight, and accepting my fatness.

For the past year, I've been spending $2500 monthly in restaurants and bars and drinking nearly daily. No beer—I quit that—but Gin and Tonics, Vodka Selters, and lots of late-night eating afterward.

To force my motivation, I signed up for the half Ironman in Flordia on December 15th in Haines City. I figured I needed a goal, and if I didn't do something soon, I would be going off the edge and not see myself living much longer due to my destructive behaviors. I've gone to bed many times, not sure if I'd wake up due to my debautury.

I decided to sign up last night, Saturday, after having several drinks. I had the epiphany that if I didn't do something, I was going to die. It also bothered me that for the first time, my wife bought me size 40 waist shorts; my previous all-time high was a 38 waist size. It was a bit of a wake-up call as fat guys are size 40, and due to the size of my gut, my ribs would hurt when I sat down, and to combat it, I'd have to put my crossed arms over the top of my protruding stomach.

I told my wife I signed up last night but didn't officially. Normally, when I was in Ironman shape, she wouldn't be happy because it was boring for her to watch (which I agree), and I spent a lot of money on race fees, travel, coaching, and time training, which also costs a lot of money. However, she said nothing this time, and I knew she was supportive and happy without any negative comments.

I waited to sign up this morning when I was sober. I wanted to make sure I was of the right mind.

So I pulled the trigger and then signed up with my old coach, Mark Allen, in his Online Coaching program on TriDot. It got me to previously qualify for Kona and the half Ironman championships.

My journey begins tomorrow. My goal is to finish the race and, during these next 20 weeks, lose as much weight as I can, ideally 40 lbs +.

I did sign up with a weight loss app, "Lose Weight in 30 days," and it's not a lot of food to what I'm compared to, but it said it has 120 million downloads and over 1000 reviews at a 4.7 rating.

However, I did deviate after the swim and had a banana. I needed the carbs. My body felt it.
